What motivated me to take the art of Tae Kwon Do?

As a child, I was small and shy. I always held on to my parents, never wanting to stay on my own. As I entered high school, my self-esteem and confidence was low. I was always thinking something was going to happen to me or somebody was going to beat me up. I was looking for a way to feel good about myself and be able to protect myself. Chuck Norris was very popular in the 80's. Watching him on the big screen amazed me. I knew then, what I wanted to do.

How has Tae Kwon Do changed my life?

As I started my Tae Kwon Do training, I knew I was doing something I really enjoyed. I was getting in great shape. My confidence was building, and I started feeling good about myself. I started to go out more and meet new people. Tae Kwon Do gave me the confidence that I could protect myself if I needed. After earning my Black Belt, I set new and higher goals, both personal and professional. Owning my own studio has opened doors for me. I've met so many wonderful people.

What motivated me to become an instructor?

As an adult I look back at my childhood, I remember kids teasing others, making fun of how others looked or how they dressed. Children lack two important qualities that can help them through these times: confidence and self-esteem. Without these qualities, a child will also avoid participating in events that can develop their physical and social skills. Children need role models, they need guidance, they need someone who will motivate them, and give them positive reinforcements. I became an instructor to help children and adults set their goals, like who they are and just have fun.

What motivated me to take the art of Tae Kwon Do?

Back in the 80's, it was all about Bruce Lee. I watched several of his movies and I was so in awe, that I wanted to learn martial arts. So one day, my parents went to enroll my sister in gymnastics, at Serramonte del Rey, and there was a Tae Kwon Do school right next to the gymnasium! That's where it all began.

How has Tae Kwon Do changed my life?

Tae Kwon Do not only helped me physically, but mentally. I strive to set and achieve my goals constantly, and it has made me the person I am today. I believe that Tae Kwon Do not only helps you learn self-defense, but also gives you inner strength to help you become successful.

What motivated me to become an instructor?

When I achieved 1st Degree Black Belt, my instructor asked me if I wanted to earn my 2nd Degree Black Belt, or become an instructor. I said I'd like to earn both. I wanted to pass on all that I learned, because it was such a big achievement for me. At the time, there weren't as many women martial artists, so I wanted to change that. By having a young lady as an instructor, more girls and women wanted to join. The feeling that I was a part of that, is really amazing. Also, to know that I made a positive difference in a student's life makes me feel successful.

What motivated me to take the art of Tae Kwon Do?

I actually was not supposed to sign up for Tae Kwon Do. Only my three younger brothers were originally going to join. I was already enrolled in ballet lessons, gymnastics and piano. When I was about 10 years old, my dad found De Lucca's School of Tae Kwon Do because it was right next to my gymnastics school. At first, I thought that martial arts was only for boys because I had never seen any female martial artists before. The only martial artists that I had been exposed to were male (e.g., Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Jackie Chao, Jet Li. .. ). While watching my brothers try out their first class, I noticed that two of the black belt instructors were women and that my brothers were having a lot of fun. After that class, I begged my parents to let my join with my brothers.

How has Tae Kwon Do changed my life?

Tae Kwon Do changed my life profoundly, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally, as well. Because of my Tae Kwon Do training I am able to stay in great shape. Not only is training in class rigorous, but I am also motivated to train outside of class to further improve my skills as a martial artist. Mentally, Tae Kwon Do has prepared me to keep pushing myself even though I feel physically or mentally drained. That mental toughness has gotten me through tiresome study marathons throughout all of my high school and college exams, crazy bosses at work, and any other obstacles that I have had to overcome so far in my life. Emotionally, Tae Kwon Do has enabled me to work and relate with so many different kinds people. It has also taught me the ability to control my emotions and not let them affect my performance as a student, martial artist or employee. So basically, Tae Kwon Do has affected every aspect of my life.

What motivated me to be an instructor?

Going in to my martial arts training, I had no intentions or goals of becoming an instructor. If you were to tell me 10 years ago that I would be an instructor in anything I would not believe you, because I am actually deathly afraid of speaking in front of groups
of people. I still am a very shy person. One of the several things that I have gained frommy Tae Kwon Do training is to face my fears and work on my weaknesses. I just started helping out in classes as part of my black belt candidate training. The more I worked on my communication skills, the more I got comfortable and confident in my teaching
ability. I realized I wanted to become an instructor when I realized how much my instructor had helped me become a better person and improved my overall quality of life. If I could help kids like myself when I first started the way my instructor did with me, I would feel that I would be doing something very meaningful with my life.

What motivated me to take the art of Tae Kwon Do?

When I was very young- I saw my brother taking a martial arts class, and from the start I loved everything about it- the kicks, the forms, everything. I had always wanted to take martial arts- but never found an affordable martial arts school. So on January 31st 2005- I enrolled at Delucca's school of taekwondo- and every day since then I've loved to take class.

How has Tae Kwon Do changed my life?

Tae Kwon Do has made me more active, it's lifted my self- esteem, and it's made me stronger. It's also made me push myself to the limit. As opposed to giving 50% effort when I do things I give that 101% effort every single time. So overall Tae Kwon Do has been a win-win situation for me.

What motivated me to be an instructor?

Whenever I would be in class I always noticed whoever was teaching had their own style of teaching. I thought it was a really cool that whenever I would be in class- there was always going to be a new curriculum waiting for me. Also I really enjoy teaching people new things and I wanted to spread my knowledge with other people.
